Constitution of the Harwich High Sailing Team

  1. Purpose

    1. The purpose of the Harwich High School Sailing Team is to promote sail racing among the members of Harwich school community and to participate in interscholastic regattas.

  2. Membership

    1. Membership in the Harwich High School Sailing Team is open to all Harwich High School Undergraduate Students.

    2. There shall be three classes of membership in the Harwich High School Sailing Team:

      1. Voting members - Voting members have full use of the Harwich High School Sailing Team facilities, have the right to vote, and may participate in all activities sponsored by the Team. In addition, voting members of the Harwich High School Sailing Team must have never been convicted of, nor confessed to a violation of the Honor Code.

      2. Sailing members - Sailing members shall enjoy all the privileges as described above for voting members. Moreover, sailing members have the right to participate in all interscholasdtic regattas governed by ISF rules. Additionally, Sailing members have a priority in using Team's equipment while training before regattas.

      3. Honorary members - Honorary members need not be members of the Harwich Undergraduate Community. They shall have all the privileges as described above for voting members except for voting.

  3. Team Officers

    1. Only undergraduate members shall be eligible for a Team office. If a student is expected not to be available for more then four weeks during a regular school year (work study, co-op, etc.), he/she may not hold any office chair during that year.

    2. No member can hold more than one office.

    3. The following shall be the officers of the Harwich High School Sailing Team:

      1. Captain

      2. Secretary

      3. Treasurer

  4. Duties of Officers

    1. The Captain shall represent the Harwich High School Sailing Team in all affairs outside the Team, shall chair the meetings of the Team, be the Chairman of the Interscholastic Racing Committee, control fund raising operations, shall maintain the racing schedul e, shall arrange practice sailing times, shall maintain communications among the Team officers, and maintain his or her allotted budget.

    2. The Team Secretary shall be responsible for taking minutes at meetings, and all clerical work and correspondence of the Team. TS shall be responsible for all historical documents (be Team's "historian"). He or she is the Publicity Director, who shall be responsible for generating interest in the Sailing Team activities among present members and the Harwich School community. The Publicity Director shall be responsible for keeping the present members and Stevens community informed of events.

    3. The Treasurer shall be responsible for keeping the accounts for the Team, and actively participate in fund raising.

  5. Dues, Donations, Money raising

    1. No dues should be collected from any of the Harwich High School Sailing Team members.

    2. Donations of any kind should be accepted.

    3. All money raised by sailing instruction, renting boats, work done by Harwich. members, etc., should be considered Team's property.

  6. Amendments

    1. This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members present at a scheduled meeting. Notice of the proposed amendment shall be given to all members, by at least three different campus media (e-mail, SIT box, flyers, etc.), at least one week before the vote on the amendment is to be taken.

  7. Adoption

    1. This constitution shall be adopted by a two-thirds vote of the members present at a scheduled meeting. Notice of the adoption meeting shall be given to all members at least one week before the vote is scheduled.

  8. Chaos Clause

    1. Whenever not defined by the current constitution, the Harwich High School Sailing Team shall follow the most current available Robert's Rules of Order.


    Bylaws of the Harwich High School Sailing Team


    1. Elections

      1. All officers shall be elected by a simple majority of members present at the meeting, or their proxies. Elections will be held the second week of November. All members shall be notified of the elections, by at least three different campus media (e -mail, home room, flyers, etc.), at least one week before the vote is to be taken.

      2. An officer can be removed from the office before his/her term has expired by a three-fourths vote of members present at a meeting, or their proxies. All members shall be notified of the vote of confidence, by at least three different campus media (e-mail, home room, flyers, etc.), at least one week before the vote is to be taken.

      3. The elections for each position shall be held individually, and anonymously.

    2. NEISA-ISA

      1. The Team shall be a regular member of the New England Interscholastic Sailing Association and the Interscholastic Sailing Association.

    3. Interscholastic Racing Committee

      1. The participants of any given interscholastic or interclub regatta shall be selected by the Interscholastic Racing Committee which will be composed of the Captain and members appointed by the Captain.

    4. Members Contribution

      1. Members who do not contribute to the Team shall be prohibited to use the Team's facilities and participate in activities sponsored by the Team.
